Hydryx Workout Towel Review

Martial arts training (especially in a gym with no air conditioning) is sweaty business. Personally, I sweat like a fat guy in the middle of August, so even during the warm-up, sweat is already dripping from my forehead.

I normally bring a towel to wipe off my sweat every time I workout, but it tends to get soaked up in sweat pretty quickly (it’s a medium sized towel). I found out about a high tech “Super Absorbent” towel called “HYDRYX” that supposedly stays cool, thus cooling you off, and soaks up a ton of water keeping you dry, so I decided to pick one up.

The Hydryx towel is a lot different than regular towels. It’s a baby blue, chamois like moist towel (you’re supposed to keep it moist with water). And you store it in a plastic cylinder-shaped container so that the towel constantly stays wet.

The claim is that it’s a towel that can cool you off, and absorb a lot of sweat, thus increasing performance.

Take a look at the instructions for using the Hydryx towel:

• Rinse or wash in cold water before use
• Wring out and store in tube or zip-lock type bag
• If HYDRYX dries out, rinse it in cold water
• In extra hot weather, rinse in cold water and wring out as much water as you like before use
• Keeping HYDRYX wet in hot weather lets you dry off and stay extra cool at the same time

Pro’s

I’ve used it during my workouts, and I can tell you that it’s way better than a regular cotton towel. Here’s why:

• For its size (25”x17”) it can soak up A LOT of sweat. And fast. It’s almost like a sponge, but without the bulk.
• It keeps you cool. The towel is cold when you use it, so it feels pretty refreshing to wipe the sweat from you body.

Con’s

• Price – I purchased my HYDRYX towel for $39.99 Canadian, but you can find it online selling for about 20 bucks. It’s still pretty expensive, considering it’s a towel
• The texture of the towel takes some time to get used to
• After a while it develops a mildew smell to it-but if you throw it in the wash, that smell is gone.

I don’t think that the towel itself will increase performance like the advertising says, but it does make you feel a lot more comfortable during your workout.

While a regular towel will do the job, the Hydryx super-absorbent towel is a “cool” luxury item to have in your gym bag. If you’ve got money to blow, check out this towel.

Neat! Where did you find this in Canada?

It was at National Sports in Scarborough (Kinda close to Scarborough Town Center). There was only 2 left, and I bought them both!

I haven't seen them anywhere else though.
