Mixed Martial Arts Will Be The Number 1 Combat Sport

Andrew Green from Innovativema.ca forums posted a link to an article entitled “In time, UFC may TKO boxing's audience”.
A related article “Like it or not, UFC on verge of explosion” talks about the early struggles of the UFC, how it turned itself into a legitimate sport, and indications as to why the sport of mixed martial arts is only going to get bigger.
Check them out.
Here’s a quote by Dana White that I actually laughed out loud to (he’s talking about getting the UFC back on television):
"I mean, it was ridiculous to me.," White said. "Television was at the point that they had people eating donkey (genitals) in prime time, and you're telling me there's no room on television for our sport?"
That’s pretty disgusting.
But anyways, I believe it will only be a matter of time until the other States start sanctioning the events, and the general population (and politicians) start to realize that mixed martial arts is a legitimate sport and not some human cock-fighting (does anyone in Japan even think MMA is barbaric???)
(On a side note, I strongly believe that the lack of critical thinking and analysis of MMA by much of its critics is WAY more primitive than martial artists testing their skills against each other. Ironic, isn’t it?)
Also, there’s criticism about how North American audiences doesn’t like it when the fight goes to the ground because it’s “boring”, you can’t intuitively understand what’s going on, and to some people, it’s kinda homo-gay. But in my opinion, over time, with enough exposure and education on ground fighting, North American audiences will find it just as exciting as the Japanese fans do.
Heck, if people can watch, understand and get enthusiastic over baseball, golf and men’s tennis (I can understand why people watch women’s tennis…and it’s not because of the tennis), then the ground fighting aspect of MMA shouldn’t be that bad.
As far as boxing is concerned, I think people will start to realize that MMA offers much more in terms of the depth of skill and entertainment than boxing. To me, watching boxing is like watching a free throw shooting contest as opposed to an actual basketball game…But I want to watch the whole game! (In this case, mixed martial arts).
Boxing is a sub-component of MMA, and once people start to realize that, I think that they would rather watch a “basketball game” (mixed martial arts) than a free throw shooting contest (boxing).
It’s only a matter of time until MMA will KTFO boxing, and rule as the number 1 combat sport…
