Ken Shamrock’s Training Sucks (So Far)
At the beginning of UFC’s “The Ultimate Fighter†3, I thought that Ken Shamrock would be far superior to Tito Ortiz when it came to coaching. After all, he has his legendary “Lion’s Den†team that turned out a lot of good fighters, like Frank Shamrock, Guy Mezger (where is he these days anyways?), Vernon White, and some other guys I can’t remember right now.
I mean, check out the old articles about the Lion’s Den training regiment below:

Seriously, after reading that, you would have thought that anyone under Ken Shamrocks’ wing would be lean, mean cardio machines! But…it’s not the case (at least not yet) in The Ultimate Fighter 3.
His choice of assistant coaches was HORRIBLE! (I think it’s a world consensus that he shouldn’t have chose the nutritionist/bodybuilder dude).
The boxing coach makes sense…but still.
Personally, I was hoping he’d bring out some of the old Lion’s Den fighters to help him coach (imagine Ken and Frank Shamrock coaching together??? I’d pay to see that on PPV).
Or even bring out Erik Paulson. Supposedly, his grappling and submission skills are pretty good
So far in TUF 3, he’s the worst coach ever!
Ken Shamrock’s training sessions in the show looks pretty unorganized, full of arguing, taking time off, and golfing. Sometimes, it makes me cringe to watch his training sessions.
The lack of condition is showing, especially with the fight between Solomon Hutcherson and Rory Singer, Ross Pointon and Kendall Grove, and Kristian Rothaermel and Michael Bisping, where fighters from Team Shamrock appeared to have gassed out to some extent.
As far as communicating with their fighters, Tito Ortiz is very nurturing and mothering to his stable of fighters, but Ken seems more like a dictator. But the mark of an effective dictator is having a bunch of scary guys backing you up…the thing is, Shamrock doesn’t have his other Lion’s Den fighters to back him up, and I don’t think anyone is scared of the bodybuilder.
Everyone is really questioning Ken Shamrock’s way of training his fighters on TUF3.
I really hope the training picks up for Shamrock’s team, because if it keeps on going at this rate, I really don’t see any of Ken’s fighters winning a fight if it happens to go over 2 minutes 49 seconds.
